Are you interested in a counseling approach that goes beyond talk therapy? Would you like to experience freedom from the thoughts and feelings that weigh you down, without having to verbally process them over and over? Would you like to tap into the power of how your brain can heal itself to experience lasting change?
In recent years, the growing interest and research into neuroscience has changed psychotherapy interventions. By gaining a deeper understanding of the brain's structures and functions, this research has opened the door to new techniques that are more effective than traditional therapy in treating life's challenges. This integration of neuroscience into psychotherapy has led to more personalized and effective treatments.
At 180 Counseling, we use methods that are rooted in this scientific approach to help our clients experience healing more quickly and with less pain.

Does this sound familiar: You long for peace but day-to-day interactions leave you worrying about everything. Daily stressors weigh you down and you're not sure why everything feels so hard. Your closest relationships aren't what you hoped for and you feel confused about how to make them better. Depression, anxiety, and relationship issues take all of your energy, leaving you with no motivation and feeling numb. Life has to be easier, better than this, but you feel lost.
Here’s the good news: No matter what you’ve been through in the past or how you’re feeling now, you can create the life you want. The answer isn’t to try harder or to do better. Resolution comes from identifying and exploring the origins of your pain and healing them, once and for all. That's when transformation happens.
I use neuroscience-based approaches to meet you where you are and guide you along a journey of healing. My approach goes well beyond talk therapy to treat life trauma with effective strategies that lead to healing and transformation. I am eclectic in my approach but mostly use a variety of eye-movement and "parts work" therapies to help clients resolve deep-rooted issues as quickly and painlessly as possible. For clients who prefer it, I also bring a faith-based perspective to the therapeutic relationship.
Before becoming a mental health counselor, I enjoyed a successful, 25-year business career, followed by 8 years as a healthcare professional. I bring a wide variety of life and professional experiences to my work as a therapist.
My undergraduate degree is from the IU School of Nursing and my graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is from the Townsend Institute at Concordia University. I completed post-graduate training as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and am a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional. I am additionally trained in EMDR and Brainspotting, Master Certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS).
AMBER IS ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS
Do you ever feel disconnected from the people around you? Or, maybe you even feel disconnected from yourself at times? Do you find yourself overreacting to the things that people say and do? Would you like to understand why you repeat the same unhealthy patterns that sometimes feel like self-sabotage?
I can help guide you through the process of self-discovery, healing, and becoming a freer version of yourself. You don't have to do this alone.
I enjoy working with individuals who are ready to do the hard work towards change. I’m not going to lie, this work can be hard and messy, but it is possible for you to find freedom from those thoughts, feelings and memories at the source of your pain. I welcome your candor, am comfortable with your vulnerability, and appreciate the courage it takes for you to pursue therapy.
I specialize in treating trauma, self-worth, depression, anxiety, and family systems, and have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. I am also an adoptive mother of two and have been a Pastor for the 14 years. My Master's degree in Counseling is from Hope International University, and my therapeutic style is client-focused using an Internal Family Systems approach. I am also trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).
NICKY IS NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS.
I absolutely love what I do and love for clients to make their experience in counseling their own. Whether you’re stressed, experiencing deep sadness or pain or having a hard time identifying what troubles you, we can work together to find the best solution for you. There is nothing like experiencing hard things and then taking the step to talk to a stranger in order to get help – what courage!
My approach to therapy is client-centered, and I believe that every individual and couple's needs are unique. Through a collaborative and compassionate process, I help my clients gain insight into their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and develop strategies for managing their challenges. My goal is to create a safe and non-judgmental environment where my clients can explore their concerns, find solutions, and achieve greater emotional wellbeing.
I am a bilingual (Spanish) therapist and hold a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Liberty University, I am additionally Master Trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). ART works to reprogram the way distressing memories and images are stored in the brain so that they no longer trigger strong negative reactions. I have a passion for helping women and couples through difficult times and am excited to continue on the journey to which God has called me.
Outside of counseling, I enjoy spending time with my husband and young sons, helping with ministry at church, singing and playing the violin and being outside as much as possible.
